I am starting this Blog on my 15th anniversary. It is a wonder that my wife has put up with me this long and it is by sheer will that we have stayed together. to say that there has been bumps is an understatement. We have both grown so much over the last 15 years and we are doing far better now then we did in the beginning...
Over the last year and a half we have gotten back into camping and this blog will be mainly about our travels and fun. We have two wonderful kids that bring fresh and funny eyes to camping and their thoughts and adventures will be part of this.
So to get it started:
Jalama Beach. June 17-20
We left right after work and dropped the kids off at Momos' house. this is our first trip without the kids in over a year. we have been fortunate enough to have camped at least once a month for the last 18 months and have many the adventures written in our little red book. I will catch up with that in a different post.
We arrived at Jalama ( one of our favorite spots) around 1:30 and were told by the Rangers that the wind was up and that we may want to pay for only one night at a time. Forget that. we are into the adventure ( most times we don't even make reservations for our travels) and what is a little wind...We were camping in the wonder Van ( 2000 Honda Odyssey). We figured it would be part of the adventure and it was. we spent the first night marveling at the sound of the wind and wondering if we had made a mistake. NAAAAHHH it is the unknown that is part of the fun.
We knew we would fit in there to sleep and could watch movies. Besides how often do parents get to read books cover to cover with an 8yr old and 10 yr old. This was going to be a kick back weekend. Our neighbors in the campsite next door packed it in after only a couple of hours but they were in a tent ( and we don't quit). We fell asleep to the wind and with hopes of a calmer day. NOPE.
We woke to slightly less wind but when we went for coffee we were told by the camp host that the wind was going to get worse 60-70mph that night. he actually said the wind was an event....We ll he didn't lie. it was rough that night. Another neighbor came and went as did most of the campers. NOT US...We stuck it out and watched another movie and laughed at our tenacity. We did get a walk in along the beach however it was not our usual 3-4 miles just a mile maybe a mile and a half.
all in all it was a great trip. we got to relax and enjoy some one on one time as well as spend time just doing nothing. Kelly more than me does not get that much and she seemed to enjoy that.
Moral of the story: even when things are not perfect there are times to just kick back and listen to the wind...
